Shifting Lenses — Illuminating the Opioid Crisis
Meredith Brickell and Laura Holzman: cast resin lenses with transparencies, found objects, and pigment, light box and projection, Indiana State Museum, 2020-2021
Shifting Lenses: Illuminating the Opioid Crisis is an interactive installation commissioned by the Indiana State Museum for FIX: Heartbreak and Hope Inside Our Opioid Crisis. It reflects the complexity of the subject, from the details of personal experience to big-picture elements like policy, healthcare, and community. Through light and scale, word and image, action and reflection, this installation invites participants to create a new image of the opioid crisis. Participants represent their point of view by selecting colored lenses with embedded objects, images and words. They arrange the lenses on an illuminated tabletop to create a personalized composition of colors, images, and words with the resulting composition shared via a large projection on the gallery wall.
