Bones
earthenware clay, paperboard boxes, paint, 48"w x 96"d, 2009-2013
This collection of quickly rendered ceramic forms refers to the realm of the handheld—tools, toys, found objects—the things we carry with us from place to place. They are visual representations of a memory of an object, rather than the actual object itself. The arrangement emulates the process of sorting through personal objects when moving or culling and redistributing possessions after someone dies. For this installation at Santa Fe Clay, Brickell offered an assortment of small boxes for people to gather a collection of “Bones” to add to their personal collection of things.
