Shed

cut saplings, milk paint, shed, Penland School of Crafts, Penland, NC, 2014

This shed, one of the few buildings on Penland’s campus without a well defined function, was tucked into the woods along a back access road and slated for demolition. To suggest the building’s previous function as well as its upcoming conclusion, Brickell gathered branches from the site to fill the doorway. The painted yellow ends suggest a luminosity, as if the shed is inhabited and being lit from within, while the blocked entrance denies entry to the space.
